Cushion, cylinder, or the bar

Count the seat-to-frame rubbers before you order rubber B, which is sold one at a time. Choose the lock when the key or cylinder failed. Choose the bar when the key works but the seat does not hook.

Rubber versus the lock

Rubber B, 77205-286-000, is the cushion between seat and frame. Hard or missing rubbers let the seat chatter, and the lock will not fix that. Order one for each cushion you remove. No fixed CB500T count is given, so use the number in your hands.

When the bar is the failed part

The lock bar assembly replaces 77220-340-003 and 77220-340-011 and fits the 1975-76 CB500T. It is the bar the cylinder moves, not the cylinder. If your key still turns and the seat will not stay down, inspect that bar before you buy another lock. If the key is missing, the lock is the part that includes new keys.

Seat hardware questions

The seat chatters on the frame. Lock or rubber?

Rubber. Seat rubber B, 77205-286-000, is the cushion under the seat. Count how many you remove and order that many, since each one is sold separately. The lock only matters when the key or the cylinder is the problem.

The new lock sits farther out. Is that expected?

Yes. This lock is made to work on these bikes, and the mechanism sticks out a bit farther than the original. It replaces 77230-399-007 and 77230-107-711 and includes keys.

The key turns but the seat pops up. What next?

Look at the lock bar, 77220-340-003 or 77220-340-011, before you replace the cylinder. The bar is what holds the seat. A worn or bent bar will not catch even when the key still works.
