The charging rectifier uses a female connector and names the 1975-76 CB500T. The starter solenoid relay names this twin under 35850-375-000. The starter clutch diode replaces 31700-124-003 and is not that charging rectifier.

Seal size, brushes, and the terminal boot

Match the starter seal to 60 by 1.4, numbers 31206-286-158 and 31206-402-008. CB500 and CB550 are named in that wide fitment. Brushes are a set of two, 12mm by 14mm by 6mm, for a Mitsuba 2-brush starter, one insulated lead and one non-insulated lead. Boot 32411-230-000 covers the starter terminal.

Rectifier versus a rectifier and regulator

The female-connector rectifier replaces 31700-455-671 and the other 31700 numbers with it. Separate titles are rectifier and regulator parts. One replaces 31400-292-670. The other says it is lithium-ion battery compatible. Match the connector and the kind of unit already on the bike before you change charging parts.

Starter and charging questions

How do I confirm the terminal boot?

The boot is the rubber cover for the starter motor terminal, replacing 32411-230-000. Match that number on the cover you are replacing. It is not the solenoid and it is not the battery cable. Slip it over the terminal so the post stays covered.

What should I check before ordering brushes?

Confirm a Mitsuba starter that uses two brushes. Each brush is 12mm by 14mm by 6mm. One has an insulated lead and one has a non-insulated lead. The set replaces 31201-292-158 and 31201-MG9-004. Skip it if the starter is not that type.

Should a bad cable be replaced before the solenoid?

Yes, if the cable is cracked, corroded, stiff, or overheated. That starter battery cable replaces 32401-319-010, is sold each, and carries the high starting current. The solenoid replaces 35850-375-000 and 35850-286-027. Fix the damaged lead before you blame the relay, motor, or battery.
