For a 1982 CB900F Supersport swingarm repair, inspect the shaft before deciding how much to replace. A pair of needle bearings, a bearing-and-shaft kit and a pair of dust caps address different needs, while the locking hardware is another separate choice.

1982 Honda CB900F Supersport · Swingarm Pivot Parts Buying guide
Let shaft condition determine the bearing package
The stock CB900F pivot already uses needle bearings. Choose the separate bearing pair or the bearing-and-hardened-shaft kit after inspecting the shaft, bearings and thrust surfaces; the catalog word conversion does not mean the F originally used plain bushes.
Inspect the bearing surfaces before choosing the package
Honda calls for checking the pivot collar and needle bearings for scoring and wear. A bearing-only repair needs a sound mating surface; a worn shaft or collar requires its own replacement plan. Compare the bearing-and-shaft kit contents before also ordering a separate bearing pair.
Count seals and locking hardware separately
Inspect the dust caps, thrust components and pivot threads along with the bearings. The caps keep contamination away from the pivot but cannot take up bearing play. The linked lock nut and lock washer are separate hardware; use the F service procedure for assembly and adjustment.
Buying questions
Does the needle-bearing kit convert this F from plain bushings?
Honda’s F diagram already shows needle bearings at the swingarm pivot. Treat the kit as a bearing-and-shaft replacement option for this model, then compare its contents with the fitted pivot. A changed swingarm needs its own dimensional check.
When are new bearings alone insufficient?
If their mating shaft or collar is scored, worn or damaged, new bearings cannot restore the correct running surface. Inspect the complete pivot and thrust components before deciding between the bearing pair, the bearing-and-shaft kit and any additional parts.
Will fresh dust caps remove side play in the swingarm?
No. They protect the pivot from dirt and moisture. Locate play in the bearings, collar, thrust components or assembly adjustment and repair that cause. Replace damaged caps as part of the service rather than using them to mask worn load-bearing parts.
Not sure which part you need?
Send your model and year, plus photos of your existing part and any changes to the original setup.
