1982 Honda CB900F Supersport · Carb Repair & Jetting Buying guide

Choose between sealing repair and metering parts

The original CB900F uses VB-family carburetors. Start with the bank’s identification and the fault being repaired: a bowl leak may need sealing parts, while metering changes require checking the installed jets, intake and exhaust configuration.

A wider kit is not automatically the right kit

The jet-equipped kit lists its #68/#105 main jets and #35 pilot. The deluxe alternative lists #69/#105 main jets and a #38 pilot, plus D447 and D295 needles. Compare those actual contents rather than assuming the word deluxe means an identical kit with more seals.

A main-jet assortment does not service every circuit

The 1982 supplement identifies the primary main jet, secondary main jet and slow jet beneath its plug. Keep those positions separate. The #35 pilot pack supplies a stated jet size for its listed application, not permission to swap any same-number jet into another carburetor family.

Buying questions

Should I fit every jet supplied in a rebuild kit?

Compare the fitted carburetor and its correct specification first. The regular kit lists #68/#105 mains and a #35 pilot; the deluxe kit lists #69/#105 mains and a #38 pilot with different needles. Those package differences do not establish one universal factory setting.

Will larger main jets fix an unstable idle?

Not by assumption. Check intake leaks, float operation, clean passages and synchronization, and identify the slow or pilot circuit separately from the main jets. Choose metering changes from a diagnosed condition and the actual carburetor setup.

How do I confirm a jet fits beyond its size number?

Match the carburetor identification, jet circuit, thread or retention style and body dimensions. Equal stamped numbers do not make different jet families interchangeable. Keep primary, secondary and slow-jet positions identified during service.
