Choosing spokes, bearings and wheel retainers

The spoke sets here are matched to the stock 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels of the early CB750F. For bearing work, record the bearing marking and assembly position before ordering. The disc-side and sprocket-side rear retainers have different replacement references.

Match the retainer tool

The disc-side retainer replaces 41231-286-000; the sprocket-side retainer replaces 41231-283-000. The linked removal tool names the disc-side reference and offers a 22mm hex plus a 3/8-inch square drive.

Spokes for the fitted rim and hub

The rear set’s application is the stock 18-inch wheel on the 1975–76 CB750F. An aftermarket rim of the same diameter can still need a different spoke specification. Identify the rim and hub together before ordering for a changed wheel.

Wheel questions

How is the 6302-2RS front bearing sold?

Each bearing is sold individually. The supplier lists two per front wheel for its stated applications, so a single order quantity is not a bearing set. Match the bearing marking and fitted wheel before applying that quantity to a rebuilt or swapped wheel.

Is the linked rear-bearing tool for both retainer references?

The linked 22mm-hex / 3/8-inch-drive tool explicitly names retainer 41231-286-000, the disc-side reference. The sprocket-side retainer is 41231-283-000, which that tool’s description does not name. Confirm the retainer and tool together rather than assuming one tool covers both.

Will the front and rear spoke sets have matching nipple finishes?

The front set has silver spokes and silver nipples; the rear set has silver spokes with gold nipples. Account for that visible difference if you are rebuilding both wheels together.
