Separate an original gauge repair from a custom conversion

Original-face work and a custom gauge installation need different checks. The 1971 MPH decal set retains the existing faces, the KM/H set supplies replacement plates, and custom instruments have their own drive and mounting requirements.

Compare the two face-restoration methods

The MPH product is an overlay decal set for the original plastic faces, with openings finished during application. The KM/H product is a replacement face-plate set supplied without jewels. Read each method before dismantling the cluster and assess the related glass lenses and any worn rings or seals separately.

Plan the custom gauge mount separately

The mini and micro instruments use their own case dimensions and mounting arrangements. Several descriptions include a mounting plate but require a separate bracket. Confirm the mechanical drive specification and cable connection as well; a listed CB application does not make a custom instrument a stock-housing replacement.

Tach & Speedo: buying questions

Are the 1971 MPH faces replacement plastic plates?

No. The MPH product is a decal set applied over the original plastic faces after removing their printed information. Gauge disassembly is required, and odometer, tripmeter and warning-light openings must be cut after application.

Are indicator jewels included with the KM/H face plates?

The KM/H set is supplied without jewels. The listing permits reusing the originals or buying the separately listed jewel set. Inspect those lenses before committing to the face repair and its additional parts.

Can I install a mini gauge using only its included plate?

Several custom gauge descriptions supply a mounting plate but require a bracket separately. Compare the selected instrument’s dimensions, drive ratio and cable connection, then identify the bracket and any illumination work needed for the installation.
