1981 Honda CB900C — Trousses de réfection, pistons et vis de purge d’étrier
Identify the calipers fitted to your 1981 CB900C Custom before choosing rebuild parts. This year’s dual front kit has a specific application. The 42.8 × 41mm piston is listed for both front and rear positions, but the required motorcycle quantities and seal kits remain distinct.

Inspect the caliper before choosing seals or pistons
Match the 1981 Custom caliper by year and brake position, then inspect its piston surfaces, seal grooves and sliding hardware. A seal kit cannot restore badly damaged metal parts.
The listed 42.8 × 41 mm piston matches the 1981 front application and the 1980–81 rear application. Use the 1981 front kit and the separately listed rear kit; a shared piston does not make the kits interchangeable.
Rebuild the cause of sticking or leakage
Inspect the whole caliper rather than replacing seals blindly. Damaged pistons, corroded grooves and sticking sliding parts need attention. Confirm the kit contents and separately source any required pistons or hardware; do not assume a seal kit includes them.
Practical questions
Can fresh seals make a pitted piston serviceable?
No. A damaged working surface can damage the new seal or continue leaking. Inspect and measure the piston and caliper against the correct service information before deciding what can be reused.
Why does the brake still drag after pad replacement?
Sticking pistons or other hydraulic restrictions may remain. Check caliper movement and lever or pedal return, and diagnose the hydraulic system before replacing more friction material.
What should be checked before riding after a caliper rebuild?
Bleed the opened circuit, check for leaks and establish a firm lever or pedal. Confirm the brake applies and releases correctly. If it remains soft, leaks or binds, keep the motorcycle out of service until the fault is resolved.
