1980 Honda CB900C Custom · Carb Holders & Airbox Boots Buying guide

Repair intake leaks at the correct side of the carburetors

The engine-side holders seal the bank to the inlet ports. The larger boots connect it to the original airbox. Hardened rubber, an unevenly seated bank or a damaged clamp can leave an air leak even after another part has been replaced.

Seat the bank before tightening its clamps

Check that all four carburetors enter their matching holders evenly and that the rubber has not folded under a lip. Honda lists intake air leaks among causes of hard starting and poor running. Correct the connection before changing jets or trying to synchronize around a leak.

Keep the airbox connections and smaller holders distinct

The holder listing specifies four 46–49mm and four 50–52mm clamps when replacing that hardware. The airbox boots specify separate 60–65mm clamps. Inspect the fitted carburetors and airbox before ordering; a changed intake can require different dimensions and clearance.

Buying questions

Can stronger clamp tightening fix a cracked holder?

No. Replace damaged rubber and check its seating and the mating surfaces. Excess tightening can distort a connection without closing the crack. Restore a sound seal before carburetor tuning.

Should the carburetors be synchronized before an intake leak is repaired?

Repair the leak and confirm the bank is seated first. A leak can cause unstable running and make adjustment misleading. Then use Honda’s checks for throttle, choke, idle and synchronization as the service requires.

Will the airbox boot set fit a pod-filter conversion?

It is intended to connect the carburetors to the original airbox. A pod installation uses a different attachment. Inspect what remains on the motorcycle and measure any changed carburetor connections before selecting rubber or clamps.
