1982 Honda CB900F Supersport · Spark Plug Tool Buying guide
The wrench is specified at 160mm overall and designed for deep plug holes. Match its 18mm working size to the fitted plugs, especially if their type differs from the original service specification.
The 18mm size refers to the spark-plug hex, while 160mm is the tool’s overall length. Compare both with the actual plug and access around the engine. A long tool is not automatically useful if its working size or clearance does not match the fitted component.
Remove dirt from around the plugs before opening the holes, and work to the Honda and plug-maker instructions. Start the correct replacement plug carefully by hand so it is not cross-threaded, then use the prescribed tightening method. A compact handle is not a torque specification.
It is the wrench’s working hex size, not the plug thread diameter or heat range. Match the fitted plug hex and confirm the correct plug specification separately. Sharing a hex size does not make two plug types interchangeable.
Clean around the plug first and follow the engine and plug service instructions. Start the correct plug by hand without forcing it, then use the specified tightening method. Stop if it does not turn normally; extra leverage can damage the cylinder-head threads.
Check the path to the plugs with the actual tank, wiring and accessories in place. The tool is 160mm overall with an 18mm working size, but that does not confirm clearance around every modification. Resolve access before loosening a plug.
