1981 Honda CB900F Supersport · Wheel Bearings & Seals Buying guide

Build the order around the wheel being serviced

The featured seal kits each contain two pieces but serve different wheels. The 6302-2RS bearing is the front-wheel option, while the linked retainer tool is selected for its specified rear retaining-ring references.

Inspect the original Comstar wheel as a complete wheel

Honda warns against dismantling the original Comstar rim, spoke and hub fasteners or straightening a bent rim. Check wheel condition and runout using the F procedure. Rough or loose bearings and damaged seals are separate service items; new seals cannot correct bearing play.

Keep the rear hub and sprocket carrier distinct

The chain-drive F rear wheel has separate hub and sprocket-carrier bearing locations, retainers and cush-drive rubbers. Do not assume every rear bearing is the same size or quantity. Identify each position from the F drawing and the removed bearing before selecting parts or a retainer tool.

Buying questions

Will replacing the wheel seals cure roughness or play?

No. Seals exclude contamination; they cannot restore a damaged bearing or worn bearing seat. Check each bearing for smooth rotation and excessive play and inspect the hub before deciding which parts the repair needs.

Can a bent original Comstar rim be straightened or its fasteners tightened like wire spokes?

Honda says not to straighten a bent rim or dismantle the Comstar rim, spoke and hub fastening. Have the wheel checked to the F service limits and replace an unserviceable wheel assembly. Conventional wire-spoke adjustment advice does not apply to this construction.

Should all rear-wheel bearings be ordered as one identical size?

Identify each position first. The F has a wheel hub and a separate sprocket carrier, and the Honda procedure uses different bearing locations and tooling. Compare the removed bearing codes and assembly drawing; a broad rear-bearing title is not enough to establish the complete order.
