1981 Honda CB900F Supersport · Electrical Buying guide

Start with the circuit that has failed

A no-crank fault, loss of spark and a discharged battery need different tests. Check battery condition, cable connections, fuses and the affected circuit before replacing a main loom or electronic unit. Identify any modified lights, ignition or battery before choosing parts.

Keep the main loom and branch wiring distinct

The main loom is listed specifically for the 1981–82 CB900F Supersport, with reference 32100-438-670. The ignition coil sub-harness plugs into the main loom and is not included with the main harness. Assess that branch separately instead of assuming the main-loom package covers it.

Keep wiring damage separate from component failure

The main loom and coil sub-harness are separate purchases. A relay connector, horn branch or damaged terminal may be the only wiring repair needed. If there is heat damage, inspect the adjoining wires and find the cause before energizing new parts.

Buying questions

Should a no-crank fault mean replacing the main loom?

Check the battery under load, cable connections, grounds, starter relay and start-control circuit first. The clutch and neutral interlock circuits also need testing. Replace the loom only when inspection and circuit tests identify damage requiring that repair.

Can matching connector shapes prove a replacement is wired correctly?

No. Compare each terminal’s function with the correct CB900F wiring diagram and the replacement instructions. Earlier repairs may have moved wires or changed connectors, and the relay-pigtail listing specifically warns against relying on wire colors alone.

Will a new fuse box fix repeatedly blown fuses?

Only if the box itself is the fault. Inspect for shorts, overloads, loose contacts and damaged wiring. Preserve the specified fuse rating and repair the cause; a higher-rated fuse is not a remedy.
