1981 Honda CB900C — Couvercles moteur et accessoires
Compare the spark-advancer cover and removed screws before buying replacements for your 1981 CB900C Custom. The chrome cover, rubber O-ring and three-piece fastener set are separate products. Inspect the sealing face as well as the visible chrome when planning the repair.

Replace a worn spark advancer cover with this Chrome Spark Advancer Cover, replacing OEM #30371-425-010. These covers are often dented, rusted, or worn; a...
Inspect the ignition cover and seal as a matched repair
The chrome spark-advancer cover protects an ignition assembly; it is separate from the generator and clutch covers. Match its mounting and rubber sealing ring, and check for damage behind a dented cover rather than treating the job as chrome replacement alone.
A new cover does not repair the mechanism beneath it
Honda checks spark-advancer operation as part of ignition service. If the cover has been struck, inspect the enclosed components and clearance before fitting the replacement. A damaged advancer or pulser assembly needs its own diagnosis; changing the outer cover will not correct ignition timing faults.
Match the seal and fasteners to the cover
The chrome cover and rubber O-ring are separate purchases. The linked 1981 screw set contains three 6 × 25mm fasteners, but a swapped cover or engine still needs direct comparison. Keep their positions and lengths correct and use Honda’s tightening procedure.
Buying questions
Does a replacement chrome cover cure an ignition misfire?
Not by itself. Inspect for contact or damage underneath, then follow Honda’s ignition checks if the symptom remains. A damaged internal component needs its own repair; avoid disturbing pulser settings during a cosmetic cover change.
Should a flat paper gasket be used with this cover?
The listed sealing part is a rubber O-ring, reference 30372-425-000. Match the old ring and its seating area. A gasket for another engine cover does not become suitable because the outer cover looks similar.
What should I check before reusing the old screws?
Inspect the heads and threads, and keep their original positions and lengths. Damaged threads or screws that bottom before clamping need attention before the cover is refitted; extra tightening can damage the housing.
