Will a stock-style brake lever fit a replacement master cylinder?

Their similar appearance does not establish interchangeability; match the lever to the cylinder actually fitted.

Will new pivot hardware remove all the play in a lever?

Inspect the lever’s pivot bore and the perch as well as the bolt. A new pivot bolt cannot remove play caused by a worn lever or perch. Brake and clutch pivot hardware also have separate references, so match the fitted control and check that the lever moves and returns freely.

Why is a cable-operated custom brake control a separate consideration?

Use it only with a separately verified, compatible cable-operated brake arrangement.
