1975 Honda CB500T · Rims, Spokes, Wheel Seals & Tire Valve Stems Buying guide

Front retainer, rear retainer, or bearing

Use 44643-300-000 when the retainer is in the front wheel. Use 41231-283-000 on the sprocket side of the rear wheel. Press in a Japan-made 6305-2RS with two synthetic shields when the bearing itself has failed.

Front number versus sprocket-side number

The front retainer replaces 44643-300-000 and is used across CB500 and CB550 families as well as other Hondas. Match that number. The rear retainer replaces 41231-283-000, goes on the sprocket side, and fits the 1975-76 CB500T along with CB750 and CB450 models.

Bearing versus a rim name

The rear bearing is 6305-2RS with two synthetic shields, replaces 96140-63050-10, is made in Japan, and names the 1975-76 CB500T. A retainer holds that bearing. It is not the bearing. A front stock-type rim name uses 44701-405-771 and a rear stock-type rim name uses 42701-404-771. Neither rim name gives a width or a spoke count.

Which wheel piece is which?

Which retainer is the sprocket side?

The rear retainer. It replaces 41231-283-000 and is used on the sprocket side. The fitment names the 1975-76 CB500T. The front retainer is 44643-300-000, and its summary includes CB500 and CB550 without a finished 1975-76 line in the year text.

Is the 6305-2RS a retainer?

No. It is the rear wheel bearing, with two synthetic shields, replacing 96140-63050-10, made in Japan. The fitment names the 1975-76 CB500T. Match the retainer separately: front is 44643-300-000 and sprocket-side is 41231-283-000.

Can I order a rim from a width in the name?

No width, diameter, or hole count is given for the front rim name 44701-405-771 or the rear rim name 42701-404-771. Use those numbers only to tell front from rear. Measure the wheel you have before you assume a size.
