The 1982 CB900F tank-service selection includes a petcock with M20 x 1.0 threads and a separate automatic fuel shut-off repair kit. Cap sealing and front tank support are additional jobs. Check the installed tank and valve arrangement before selecting parts by their shared fuel-system category.

1982 Honda CB900F Supersport · Tank & Shut-Off Parts Buying guide
Identify the valve and tank fitting first
The petcock references 16950-MA4-771, while the repair kit services the automatic shut-off assembly. Front tank cushions and a cap seal should be assessed separately rather than included in an assumed complete tank-repair package.
The listed 1982 petcock uses M20 x 1.0 threads. Honda’s 1982 supplement also shows a fuel-strainer cup, screen and O-ring as distinct service pieces. Inspect the fitted valve construction; the automatic shut-off kit is not a substitute for those tank-valve parts.
Inspect tank support and cap condition separately
Check the front cushions, tank mounting channels and rear support while access is available. A cap seal cannot correct a bent sealing rim, damaged latch or rusty tank neck. Confirm that the cap vents as designed, and leak-test any fuel-system repair safely before riding.
Buying questions
Can the petcock be selected from model year alone after a tank swap?
No. Measure the actual connection and compare its sealing arrangement, outlet direction, hose size and lever clearance. The 1981 listing specifies M18 x 1.0; the 1982 listing specifies M20 x 1.0. Neither year proves the thread on a replacement tank.
Will a new cap seal fix any leak around the filler?
Inspect the cap rim, hinge, latch and tank neck for damage or corrosion as well as the rubber. Confirm that the cap vents correctly. A seal-only part cannot correct a distorted cap or sealing surface.
Does the automatic shut-off kit replace the petcock or strainer?
No. It repairs the separate automatic shut-off assembly. Match its construction and hoses before ordering; one included O-ring may be unused. Inspect the tank valve’s screen, cup and seal separately where that original arrangement remains fitted.
Not sure which part you need?
Send your model and year, plus photos of your existing part and any changes to the original setup.
