The first air-filter decision for a 1982 CB900F is whether the stock-style airbox remains in use. Its replacement element and a clamp-on pod are different choices. Identify the fitted carburetors, inlet dimensions and available space before considering a filter that changes the intake arrangement.

Honda specifies a paper air-filter system and 32mm VB-family carburetor venturis for this CB900F generation. The stock airbox element and 54mm clamp-on pods serve different installations. The venturi measurement must not be used as the pod mounting size.
If the original-style housing and connecting boots are present, compare the stock filter with that arrangement. A pod is not an interchangeable element for the housing. Base the purchase on the actual intake rather than the black or chrome appearance of nearby filter options.
A pod conversion needs a complete intake assessment
The black round pod requires a compatible 54mm mounting connection and enough room around the carburetors. Changing from the shared airbox alters the intake arrangement, so assess mixture, synchronization and throttle response. Do not assume that a larger main jet alone will resolve every running issue.
Buying questions
Can I choose a pod from the carburetor’s 32mm bore size?
No. That is the venturi measurement. Measure the outside of the actual air inlet for the pod’s mounting connection; the featured pod specifies 54mm. Also check the clamping area and surrounding clearance, particularly with replacement carburetors.
Will pods work with the existing carburetor settings?
Do not assume so. Changing the original airbox arrangement calls for checking mixture, synchronization and throttle response for the actual engine and exhaust. There is no single jet change established by the filter listing.
Can the stock airbox element and washable pod use the same care routine?
Follow each filter’s own instructions. The black round pod is washable and supplied dry, with suitable filter oil optional as described. That does not establish that the stock-style airbox element should be washed or oiled the same way.
