1981 Honda CB900F Supersport · Brake Pads & Hardware Buying guide

Match pad position before material

Choose pads for the actual front or rear caliper before comparing Kevlar and sintered material. Inspect the disc, pad pins and caliper movement at the same time; uneven wear or a dragging brake can point to a fault that new pads alone will not cure.

Front/rear in a title needs context

The rear Kevlar product also serves front brakes on other models, explaining its front/rear title. Its CB900F fitment specifies the rear disc. Use that exact application rather than transferring another motorcycle’s front-brake assignment to the Supersport.

A pedal that stays down needs a wider check

The pedal return spring acts at the pedal-to-spindle connection; the brake-light switch spring operates the switch. Honda shows these as separate springs. Inspect the pedal pivot and linkage as well as both springs, and confirm the rear brake releases rather than using a new return spring to conceal binding.

Buying questions

What should I check if the pads have worn unevenly?

Inspect piston movement, caliper sliding parts, pad pins and the disc before fitting another set. Replace pads in pairs within a caliper and use the correct front or rear application. A sticking mechanism can quickly damage new pads or leave the brake dragging.

Can the thicker front/rear pad be used at the CB900F front?

The 90 x 49 x 10.5mm product specifies rear use on the 1981–82 CB900F. The offered front pads are 90 x 49 x 9mm. A shared outline or front/rear title does not make the two thicknesses interchangeable on this motorcycle.

Is the pedal return spring the brake-light switch spring?

No. The return spring helps return the pedal at the spindle; the separate switch spring pulls the rear brake-light switch. Identify the damaged part by its location, then check pedal return and brake-light operation after repair.
