1981 Honda CB900F Supersport · Exhaust Buying guide
Port gaskets and muffler-joint gaskets seal different exhaust connections. The stud package supplies fastening hardware separately, so plan sealing and mounting needs without assuming one listing covers the entire system.
The port seals and muffler-joint gasket are separate purchases for separate connections. Count the joints disturbed by the repair and compare the fitted parts. The captured 18391-461-000 crossover listing names the 1982 F; its application is not extended to this 1981 guide.
Check headpipe seating, split collars, studs and the downstream supports before reassembly. Tightening harder will not correct a misaligned system, damaged sealing face or stripped thread. Support the exhaust without forcing it into position and follow the Honda procedure for the actual assembly.
Check the joint alignment, sealing faces, clamps and hardware as well as the gasket. A crushed seal, loose joint or damaged stud can require different repairs. Identify whether the leak is at the cylinder head, a muffler joint or another connection before ordering.
Do not use extra force to compensate for misalignment, an incorrectly seated collar or a failed gasket. Inspect the parts and threads, support the system correctly and use the specified tightening procedure. Excess force can damage studs or cylinder-head threads.
Compare the actual joint construction and dimensions with the replacement requirements. An aftermarket header, collector or muffler can change those connections. Model application alone does not verify every modified exhaust, and gasket selection does not establish a jetting recommendation.
