1970 Honda CB750K · Clutch Plates & Springs Buying guide

Count early CB750 clutch plates and compare spring contents

Honda’s original wet clutch has seven friction discs, six steel plates and four springs. The friction stack originally uses six discs A and one disc B. Compare the fitted clutch and the replacement maker’s stack instructions as well as the individual catalog quantities.

Build the plate order from the inspected clutch

Check friction-plate wear, steel-plate condition and the fitted clutch before building the order. Honda describes six friction discs A and one B in the original seven-disc stack. An aftermarket replacement may use a different design, so confirm its exact application and assembly instructions rather than assuming the original types are interchangeable or that the replacement is incompatible.

Plan spring hardware separately

Review the retained bolts and washers alongside the spring replacement. Match them to the fitted clutch and its service information before adding hardware; replacing springs does not by itself establish that every fastener needs replacement.

Questions that help you choose

What should I confirm before ordering a complete friction stack?

Honda’s original stack uses six friction discs A and one B. The catalog lists seven of its individual replacement friction plate for the early CB750K, but does not explain that replacement design’s treatment of the original two types. Confirm the replacement maker’s complete-stack application and sequence for your clutch before ordering all seven.

Will stronger clutch springs cure a slipping clutch?

Check clutch adjustment, friction-plate wear, steel-plate distortion and basket condition first. The performance spring listing says the springs do not repair worn plates, a notched basket or incorrect adjustment. Select springs after identifying the fault, and use the Honda procedure for the fitted clutch.

How do I distinguish the two 16mm clutch washers?

The tab washer replaces 90431-292-000; the special angled washer replaces 90481-292-000. Their shared 16mm description does not make them interchangeable. Match the reference and washer profile to its position in the fitted clutch.
