Choose the petcock, locking cap and front support rubber by their own listed applications and the tank actually fitted. The shared CB650SC name does not establish that a later Nighthawk tank cushion or valve is the same replacement.

Check the cap fitting and the supplied package

Cap 65-6508 replaces reference 17620-460-067 and comes with a gasket and two keys. Compare the hinge, latch and filler-neck sealing surface before buying it for a changed tank. Confirm any additional mounting hardware needed rather than assuming the listed package supplies it.

Compare more than the valve thread

The offered petcock replaces reference 16950-461-751 and has M20 × 1.0 threads. Its buying guidance also calls for comparing the sealing arrangement, outlet direction, hose size and lever clearance. A matching thread alone does not settle those other details.

Can I choose a front cushion listed for a later CB650SC?

Verify its application rather than treating the model name as enough. This page selects the 17611-425-000 replacement, whose listing specifies the 1982 CB650SC. The separate 17611-KE8-000 cushion lists the 1983–85 CB650SC; that later listing does not establish a substitute for the 1982 mounts.

Will the new fuel cap work with my existing ignition key?
