Filter service without extra assumptions

The paper filter is intended for the original housing. Its seals, spring and washers are separate items, so check what is already present before ordering. A spin-on conversion needs its own replacement filter rather than another loose paper element.

Order for the opened assembly

A head gasket, valve-cover gasket and engine overhaul set cover different repairs. Build your list from the actual dismantling plan and inspect the surrounding parts. Use the CB650 service manual for measurements and assembly procedures instead of choosing parts from engine noise alone.

Ordering questions

Does one ring set rebuild the engine?

No. The standard-size ring set covers one piston; four sets are needed for all four. Confirm the measured cylinders and fitted pistons are standard size before placing that order.

Can I reuse a filter-housing shopping list after a spin-on conversion?

Check which filter assembly is installed first. The original paper element and its housing hardware apply to the stock arrangement; the chrome spin-on filter is a separate conversion choice.

How should I choose between individual gaskets and a set?

Use the repair scope. A single opened cover may need its own gasket, while wider dismantling may justify a set. Check the exact contents rather than assuming every oil seal is included.
