Prepare the new panel deliberately

Both side-cover descriptions call for thorough cleaning to remove the protective oil coating left by molding. Check the panel against the motorcycle before painting it. The bodywork is aftermarket; its stock-type shape does not turn it into a painted genuine Honda panel.

Count mounts separately from panels

The linked B-type damper is sold each and specifies three on each side of the CB900F. Inspect the installed mounting points before replacing the panel. Other damper types exist in the grid, but their general applications should not override the model-specific quantity given for the B type.

Buying questions

What should I check before painting a replacement side cover?

Trial-fit the correct left or right panel and check its tabs against sound mounting rubbers. Remove the protective molding oil using preparation suitable for the plastic and paint system. Correct a fit problem before applying the finish rather than forcing a painted panel into place.

Will the emblem fit existing holes in a repaired panel?

Measure the holes against the stated 96mm rear post spacing and check their condition before ordering. The replacement is described as close to the original, not identical. Do not drill or enlarge a freshly painted panel until the actual emblem and intended placement have been checked.

Should loose mounting rubbers be renewed with a new panel?

Inspect them along with the tabs and frame mounts. Hardened, split or loose dampers can leave the panel unsupported even when the panel is new. The B-type rubbers are individual pieces; count the damaged positions after identifying the correct damper type.
