1975 Honda CB500T · Camshaft Drive Parts Buying guide

Same Honda number, two plate styles

Both chains are Daido, 128 links, pitch .3061, with a clip link, replacing 14401-283-003. The 219FTSS uses stepped parallel plates at 1896 lbs average. The 219T uses peanut plates at 1800 lbs average.

Fitment years are the same on both chains

Both chains fit the 1975-76 CB500T, CB450K for 1966 and 1968-74, and CL450K for 1967, 1969-72, and 1974. Plate style does not change that. A higher tensile figure does not prove which chain was original. Match the side-plate style you remove.

Clip links included, extras not described

Each chain includes one clip link. Extra clip links are mentioned for the 219FTSS chain, with no part number or size, so do not expect a spare in the box. Order the chain whose side plates match the chain you removed.

Cam-chain questions

Can either chain replace Honda 14401-283-003?

Yes. Both the 219FTSS and the 219T chains replace 14401-283-003. The Honda number will not choose between them. Use stepped parallel or peanut plates, and 1896 lbs or 1800 lbs average tensile strength. Both are 128 links at pitch .3061.

Are the two cam chains different lengths?

No. Both are 128 links at pitch .3061, Daido, with a clip link. The printed differences are the side plate and average tensile strength: stepped parallel plates at 1896 lbs, or peanut plates at 1800 lbs. Fitment years match too.

How do I tell a peanut plate from a stepped plate?

219T is the peanut side plate. 219FTSS is the stepped parallel side plate. No thickness is given, so match the code and the plate style, and use the printed tensile strength as the other difference.
