1980 Honda CB650C Custom · Choke Cable & Throttle Sleeve Buying guide

Separate the choke cable from the twistgrip sleeve

The choke cable replaces reference 17950-426-000 for the listed 1980 application. The nylon sleeve replaces 53141-300-010 and belongs to the throttle grip arrangement rather than the choke cable run.

Use the narrow choke-cable application

The cable is listed for the 1979–80 CB650 and 1980 CB650C. That is narrower than the overall CB650 family. Compare the actual cable fittings and carburetor operation before choosing it for a motorcycle with an altered induction setup.

Inspect the throttle assembly as a whole

A worn sleeve is one part of the twistgrip arrangement. Check the fitted grip, housing and cable engagement before replacement, then follow the service procedure to ensure the throttle operates and returns correctly. Do not use a new sleeve to mask damaged cables or a binding control.

Choke Cable & Throttle Sleeve questions

What must the throttle do after the sleeve or cables are replaced?

With the engine off, confirm full opening and positive snap-back at every steering position. Inspect the housing and handlebar for burrs, and use the Honda routing and adjustment procedure. Do not start or ride the motorcycle with a binding throttle.

How can I check that a replacement choke cable is adjusted correctly?

Follow the Honda adjustment procedure, then confirm the choke reaches fully on and fully off without binding throughout steering movement. Route it without tight bends or contact with hot parts; matching the end fittings alone does not establish correct operation.

Will it work with taller replacement bars?

Compare cable fittings, reach and routing on the actual motorcycle. The original application does not establish extra length for a modified handlebar setup.
