Identify which instrument cable needs replacement on your 1980 CB650 and compare both ends before ordering. The standard-model speedometer cable and tachometer cable have different references. Modified instrument positions or handlebars can change the routing and length requirements beyond the original application.

Compare both connections before choosing the cable
The speedometer cable replaces 44830-KC1-010; the tachometer cable replaces 37260-426-000. Start from the affected instrument and its drive, then verify the complete route on the motorcycle.
The speedometer cable explicitly lists the standard 1980–82 CB650. A Custom model or another year may use a different cable despite a similar instrument appearance. Match the application and the ends rather than assuming a broad CB650 reference covers every arrangement.
Check a tachometer change as a separate project
The tachometer cable serves the listed mechanical-drive application. When changing to an electronic tachometer or removing the gauge, plan a verified closure for the retained unused drive separately. Its seal and retaining arrangement need checking alongside the new instrument’s electrical connections and mounting.
Ordering questions
Why can the speedometer still jump or make noise after a cable change?
Inspect the instrument and wheel-drive unit for wear or binding as well as the cable. Check for sharp bends or tension and fully seated ends; follow the cable maker’s lubrication instructions. A replacement cable cannot repair a worn or binding drive or gauge.
Can these cables suit repositioned gauges?
Measure the actual route and compare the required length and end fittings first. The original application does not establish fit for every custom gauge bracket or handlebar change.
What should I check before changing to an electronic tachometer?
Establish the new instrument’s requirements and how the now-unused mechanical drive will be treated. Choose a verified closure for that drive separately from the electrical and mounting work.
