Choose 1982 CB900F piston parts after the cylinder and piston condition has been measured. The available kits and rings are standard size, and each package serves one piston. Pins and two-piece clip packs are separate options when the repair does not require an entire new piston assembly.

Decide whether the piston or only its rings need renewal
The CB900F has a nominal 64.5mm bore, but its present cylinder condition determines whether standard-size parts are usable. Measure before choosing a rings-only repair or a piston kit; both listed packages serve one cylinder.
Standard rings cannot compensate for an unsuitable bore or damaged piston grooves. Assess each cylinder and piston, then check ring fit to the Honda service limits. A nominal model specification is a starting point for identification, not proof that an old engine remains standard size.
Account for the pin and its retaining clips
The piston kit includes its pin and clips; the separate pin does not. Inspect the retained piston and pin fit before choosing a pin-only repair. Replace removed retaining clips with the correct new clips and verify that they are fully seated during assembly.
Buying questions
Can I order standard rings before measuring the cylinders?
Measure first. Bore wear, taper, out-of-round, piston clearance and ring-groove condition determine whether a rings-only repair is appropriate. The standard-size listing does not establish the condition of your CB900F cylinders.
When is the piston kit preferable to rings alone?
Choose after inspection. The kit adds a piston, pin and clips to the rings and is useful when the piston also needs replacement; it still requires a suitable bore. A serviceable piston may need only correctly sized rings and any separately required small parts.
Can I reuse the piston-pin clips after removal?
Use new clips of the correct 15mm application. The separate pack contains two, enough for one piston, while the piston kit already lists clips. Check the grooves and make sure both clips seat fully before assembly continues.
