Chrome, black, and black-and-chrome covers are finishes. The length is the fit. Sets that name the 1975-76 CB500T include 335mm eye-to-clevis shocks and a 321mm center-of-eye set. Universal 290mm shorties do not name the CB500T.

Measure first, then pick the finish

If the old shock measures about 335mm eye-to-clevis, start with that stock-length set. If it measures 321mm, use the stock-type set. Buy 290mm only if you want that shorter universal length.

Finish does not change the length

Black, chrome, and two-tone 335mm sets are the same length decision. Pick the look after the tape measure agrees. The 321mm set is not a color of the 335mm set. Its own text also says you may need washers because the top eye is 20mm wide on some models.

Shorties are a modification

The 290mm sets are titled as universal shorty shocks and their descriptions do not name the CB500T. Buying one changes ride height on purpose. Do not call it a stock replacement for this twin.

335mm eye-to-clevis, also written as 13 3/16 inch, on the sets described as stock length. Confirm by measuring the shock on your bike.

How is the 321mm set different?

It measures 321mm, 12.6 inch, center-of-eye to clevis, with 5-position preload instead of the original 3-position, and a 20mm top eye. It still names the 1975-76 CB500T.

Do the 290mm shocks name this twin?

No. Treat them as a universal shorter length. The sets that name the CB500T are the 335mm and 321mm styles.
