Identify the cable, support or gauge repair

The standard-model cable applications and meter cushion provide straightforward service choices. Custom instruments require additional mounting, drive and wiring checks that should be settled before selecting a gauge.

Keep the two cable references distinct

The tachometer cable replaces 37260-426-000; the speedometer cable replaces 44830-KC1-010. Both are made in Japan and include this standard CB650 application. If bars or gauges have moved, compare the actual routing and end connections before using the original-style cable choice.

Check gauge support as well as function

The meter cushion replaces 37235-323-700, with one used for the speedometer and one for the tachometer. Inspect the existing supports before ordering. A new cable will not address a damaged mounting cushion or establish the compatibility of an aftermarket gauge.

Buying questions

Why can the speedometer still jump or make noise after a cable change?

Inspect the instrument and wheel-drive unit for wear or binding as well as the cable. Check for sharp bends or tension and fully seated ends; follow the cable maker’s lubrication instructions. A replacement cable cannot repair a worn or binding drive or gauge.

Can new gauge trim cure movement caused by the rubber mounts?

A hardened, split or compressed meter cushion can let the instrument move even when the chrome cover looks sound. Inspect the brackets, sleeves, washers and fasteners too. Cushion 73-0096 is sold individually; the original speedometer and tachometer each use one.

Can I assume a 4:1 custom tachometer suits this CB650?

Verify the required ratio against the actual tachometer drive and reliable service information before choosing a mechanical gauge. The offered 4:1 instrument’s calibration does not establish the stock CB650 ratio, and a model application alone cannot confirm compatibility.
