1983 Honda CB550SC · Ignition Buying guide

Choose between a separate-wire coil and an attached-wire coil

Both coil listings replace 30500-422-003 and 30500-422-013 and state two coils used per bike. Confirm the supplied quantity for each option. The separate XD05F cap needs comparison with the cap and lead arrangement being retained.

Use wire contents to compare the two coil purchases

The separate-wire coil listing specifies 7 mm high-tension wires as additional purchases. Rick’s coil states that wires are attached. Their two-coil bike-use note does not explicitly establish the supplied quantity. Confirm that quantity, then inspect the retained leads and routing before choosing the purchase.

Verify cap type without borrowing another model’s quantity note

The XD05F listing includes the 1983 CB550SC in its applications. Its two-required note names the CB750 specifically, so it does not establish a CB550SC cap quantity. Compare the cap code and connection on your motorcycle and count the positions needing replacement before assembling the order.

Ignition questions

Do matching replacement references mean the wire contents are identical?

No. Both coils name 30500-422-003 and 30500-422-013, but one lists high-tension wires separately and the Rick’s version says wires are attached. Compare those contents with the parts you plan to retain instead of assuming both purchases are the same package.

Can the universal 3 ohm coil set be selected by model name alone?

Establish the installed ignition’s required primary resistance and check mounting and connections first. The universal set’s own description asks for that resistance check; it does not provide a CB550SC-specific ignition requirement that would establish compatibility by model name alone.

Does the XD05F listing establish a full set of caps for this bike?

It identifies the XD05F cap and includes CB550SC application, but its quantity note refers to another model. Check the actual cap arrangement and required order quantity; do not interpret that note as a CB550SC set or a pair supplied with the coils.
