1981 Honda CB650 · Piston Rings & Pins Buying guide
Standard-size rings, a genuine Honda piston pin and paired retaining clips address distinct pieces of the piston assembly. Choose them from the inspected parts and measured engine, not the year alone.

Each standard ring set contains the rings to rebuild one piston. Order four sets only when all four pistons require that standard-size set. Cylinder and piston inspection must come first; do not assume a used engine has never been rebored.
The genuine Honda pin is sold individually: four pins replace all four. The separate pack contains two 15mm clips, enough for one compatible piston; four packs supply eight clips for all four pistons. Match the piston and pin-retaining arrangement before ordering, especially with aftermarket pistons. Rings, pins and clips are separate products.
Four standard-size sets cover all four pistons. That quantity is appropriate only after confirming the fitted pistons and cylinder measurements call for the offered standard-size rings.
Measure pin-to-piston-bore clearance and inspect the connecting-rod small end for scoring or looseness. Match the pin diameter and piston application before ordering, and replace the specified retaining clips rather than reusing removed clips.
Do not order them on that assumption. Identify the piston markings and measure the cylinder and ring requirements; this guide selects the standard-size set, not an oversize alternative.
