Keep intake and exhaust valves separate when planning cylinder-head work on your 1981 Honda CB650. The two valves have different references, and stem seals are another item to count. Base the order on head inspection rather than symptoms alone.

Replace your valve stem seals with this Valve Stem Seal, replacing OEM #12209-333-005.Sold each, order the quantity you require.Key Features• Valve stem seal• Replaces...
Both replacement valve types are made in Japan. The featured Kibblewhite seals come as an eight-piece Viton set; the standard replacement seal is sold individually, allowing its quantity to match a smaller repair.
The intake valve replaces 14711-426-003; the exhaust valve replaces 14721-426-003. Record the position as well as the reference when comparing removed valves. Their shared CB650 application is not a reason to treat the two valves as interchangeable. Each valve is sold individually; four intake valves and four exhaust valves replace all eight positions.
Choose the seal package deliberately
The Kibblewhite package contains eight 100% Viton seals. The linked standard seal is sold each despite wording in its URL. Count the seals required by the inspected cylinder head and use the current product description for ordering quantity.
Ordering questions
Are the featured valves a complete set?
No. One intake valve or one exhaust valve is supplied per respective listing. Four of each replace all eight valve positions. Use inspection of the head, valves and guides to decide how many actually need replacement.
What else should be checked when a valve is replaced?
Inspect the valve seat, spring, retainer and keepers; for an exhaust valve, also check installed height. Have the seat machined as needed, then set cam timing and valve clearance to Honda specifications after assembly.
Can new seals compensate for worn guides?
Measure valve-stem-to-guide clearance and have excessive guide wear corrected. New valves or stem seals do not establish that the guides are serviceable.
Not sure which part you need?
Send your model and year, plus photos of your existing part and any changes to the original setup.
