Separate valve replacement from stem sealing

Valve condition, guide condition and stem sealing are related inspection points, but they do not call for the same part. Use the head assessment to decide which pieces need replacement.

Use the correct valve reference

The intake valve replaces 14711-426-003; the exhaust valve replaces 14721-426-003. Both are listed for this CB650 application. Avoid choosing by appearance alone, especially when the removed parts or cylinder head may have been changed. Each valve is sold individually; four intake valves and four exhaust valves replace all eight positions.

Choose a seal package deliberately

The Kibblewhite package contains eight Viton stem seals. The separate standard seal is sold individually. Count the positions included in the repair and choose the required quantity of individual seals or the eight-piece package.

Buying questions

What else should be checked when a valve is replaced?

Inspect the valve seat, spring, retainer and keepers; for an exhaust valve, also check installed height. Have the seat machined as needed, then set cam timing and valve clearance to Honda specifications after assembly.

How many seals come in the Viton set?

Eight seals are included. The separately linked standard seal is sold individually, so its required order quantity must be entered separately.

Will new stem seals fix worn valve guides?

Measure valve-stem-to-guide clearance and have excessive guide wear corrected. New valves or stem seals do not establish that the guides are serviceable.
