1981 Honda CB900F Supersport · Sprockets Buying guide

Confirm the fitted rear gearing

The listed 44-tooth rear sprocket is sold for the 1981–82 CB900F with reference 41200-438-000. Compare chain pitch, mounting pattern and offset as well as tooth count, especially if the rear wheel or gearing has been changed.

Check a modified motorcycle carefully

A 44-tooth replacement may differ from the sprocket currently fitted after a gearing change. Count the existing teeth and check chain length before buying. The listing identifies the offered stock-size choice, but it cannot confirm the configuration installed by a previous owner.

Inspect the chain and both sprockets together

Honda warns against pairing a new chain with worn sprockets or a worn chain with new sprockets. Inspect tooth shape, chain rollers, pins and O-rings before deciding what to replace. Use the CB900F procedure for alignment, chain slack and fastening after the work.

Buying questions

Can I keep a worn chain when fitting a new rear sprocket?

No. Honda warns that mixing worn and new drive components accelerates wear. Inspect the chain and front sprocket alongside the rear sprocket and replace components that fail the service checks.

Is a matching tooth count enough after a rear-wheel swap?

No. Confirm chain pitch, center bore, bolt circle, bolt-hole size and offset against the fitted wheel. The offered part’s CB900F application does not verify a wheel or sprocket carrier from another motorcycle.

What if I want to change the rear tooth count?

Check the intended gearing, compatible chain length and available adjustment before buying. After installation, follow the Honda procedure for alignment and slack; the existing chain is not automatically suitable for a different sprocket size.
