1981 Honda CB650C Custom · Exhaust Seals & Studs Buying guide

Count the sealing joints and inspect the fasteners

The individual and ten-pack gasket options share their application references. The separate fastening set supplies eight studs and eight flange nuts, giving a clear contents check when planning broader exhaust removal.

Choose gasket packaging for the repair

The single gasket and ten-pack use references 18212-634-000, 18291-236-000 and 18291-MN4-920. Their main ordering difference is supplied quantity. Choose the package for the actual repair and any intended spares without treating the bulk pack as a different fitment.

Assess fastening condition before disassembly

The stud set contains eight studs with eight flange nuts for the listed Custom application. Inspect the installed hardware and follow the correct service procedure for removal and fitting. Do not infer torque values or removal methods from the package size.

Exhaust Seals & Studs questions

Can I reuse a port gasket after removing the headpipe?

Honda’s Common Service Manual calls for a new exhaust-pipe gasket whenever the pipe is removed from the engine. Include a replacement for each opened port connection and use the model-specific manual for assembly and tightening.

Will a new stud set fix damaged cylinder-head threads?

No. Inspect the head threads before installing replacement studs. The stud supplier calls for proper extraction methods for seized hardware rather than forcing it in the aluminum head, followed by the specified installation depth and even flange-nut tightening. Resolve damaged threads before relying on new hardware.

How should I choose for an aftermarket header?

Compare the connection at the cylinder head and the exhaust manufacturer’s requirements. A stock-application listing does not establish every modified flange or header arrangement.
