1982 Honda CB900C Custom · Brake Pads & Hardware Buying guide
The 1982 CB900C uses 90 × 49 × 9 mm front pads and 90 × 49 × 10.5 mm rear pads. Match the full pad shape and position before choosing Kevlar or sintered-metal friction material.
The 1982 dual-piston calipers use a different pad family from the 1980–81 Custom. For this Custom, use 90 × 49 × 9 mm front pads and 90 × 49 × 10.5 mm rear pads. Each listed set serves one caliper; replacing both front calipers requires two front sets.
A different pad compound cannot repair a sticking piston, damaged disc or hydraulic fault. Correct the cause of uneven wear or drag, use matching front-pad applications on both sides, and follow the pad maker’s bedding instructions.
Inspect the caliper, disc and pad surfaces first. Contamination, disc runout or incorrect caliper installation can cause noise; a sticking brake can wear pads unevenly. Changing compound alone may leave the fault in place.
Honda calls for contaminated pads to be discarded. Repair the leak, clean the disc as directed in the service manual and fit the correct replacement pads before returning the brake to service.
A dragging brake needs diagnosis of piston movement, the hydraulic system and lever or pedal return. Do not rely on new pads to free a sticking brake.
