1980 Honda CB900C Custom · Throttle & Choke Cables Buying guide

Restore free control movement through the full steering range

The pull and closing throttle cables have different roles and end arrangements; the choke cable operates a separate linkage. Length alone does not establish fit. Worn cable strands, poor routing or a damaged sleeve can prevent smooth operation even with the correct model application.

Use the routing check as part of fitment

The listed pull cable is 47 inches overall; that measurement does not describe the push or choke cable. Compare the outer cable, adjusters, free inner-wire length and end fittings with the removed part. Honda requires full opening and automatic full closing of the throttle in every steering position.

Check the choke’s full travel separately

Honda’s choke check confirms that the valves fully close when the knob is pulled and fully open when it is pushed back. A sticking cable or incorrect adjustment can leave the choke partly on. Check the linkage and cable attachment as well as the knob before blaming carburetor jetting.

Buying questions

What if the throttle works straight ahead but tightens at steering lock?

Recheck the routing, cable reach and adjustment before riding. Honda requires smooth opening and automatic full closing at every steering position. A different handlebar or trapped cable can create a problem that a model-year match alone will not reveal.

Can I replace a closing cable with a second pull cable?

Do not assume interchange. The two cables have separate functions and references. Match each cable’s ends, adjusters and installed route to its own position.

Could a choke cable cause rich running after the engine warms?

Yes, if it prevents the choke valves from opening fully. Inspect cable movement, linkage and adjustment, and verify full travel in both directions before changing carburetor settings.

Not sure which part you need?
