How many Honda 12209-413-003 exhaust valve-stem seals are included and required?

One exhaust valve-stem seal is included. The two-cylinder, three-valve-per-cylinder CB400A uses one exhaust valve per cylinder, so two of these seals are required for both exhaust valves; the four intake valves use a different seal.

When should CB400A valve-stem seals be replaced?

Replace hardened, damaged or leaking seals during cylinder-head work. Worn seals can contribute to oil consumption or smoke after startup, but guides, rings and breather problems can cause similar symptoms.

Can valve-stem seals be installed without protecting the sealing lip?

No. Clean the valve stem, cover sharp keeper grooves with the proper installation sleeve and press the seal squarely to avoid cutting or distorting its lip.
