Can this meter measure starter-motor or alternator charging current directly?

No. Its listed current range stops at 200mA, far below starter and main charging-system current. Use an appropriate DC clamp meter or specified high-current test equipment for those circuits.

What prevents meter damage during motorcycle electrical testing?

Use the correct input jack and range before connecting, never measure resistance on a powered circuit and begin on a higher voltage range when the expected value is uncertain.
