The tripod oil-filter wrench applies to the 1982 CB650SC when the specified aftermarket spin-on filter is fitted. Check that arrangement on the engine before buying the tool. The original housing and paper element are a different service setup with their own equipment requirements.
Remove and install spin-on oil filters with this 3/8" Drive Tripod Oil Filter Wrench. Designed for our aftermarket spin-on cartridge oil filters.Key Features• 3/8"...
Confirm the spin-on filter before selecting the wrench
The tripod tool takes a 3/8-inch drive and is specified for the matching aftermarket cartridge filter. Identify that filter on your motorcycle before ordering; the original bolt-retained housing needs different service equipment.
The chrome spin-on product explicitly lists the 1982 CB650SC and replaces the original housing, bolt and paper element arrangement. Choose this wrench only after confirming the matching filter is installed. Availability of the conversion does not prove the motorcycle currently uses it.
Follow the filter’s service requirements
The tripod wrench is intended for the matching aftermarket cartridge and is mainly useful for controlled removal. Follow the filter or adapter manufacturer’s installation procedure. A spin-on design alone does not establish engagement with every alternative filter or the same fitting requirements.
Spin-On Oil Filter Wrench questions
Which filter must be fitted before this wrench is useful?
The CB650-family application for wrench 35-9022 specifies aftermarket spin-on filter 15-1006. It does not service the original center-bolt housing and paper element. Check the filter actually fitted, including its identity after an unknown conversion, before ordering.
Should I use the wrench to tighten the spin-on filter as firmly as possible?
No. Follow the filter or adapter manufacturer’s installation procedure and do not overtighten. The wrench’s product guidance describes it as mainly useful for controlled removal when the filter cannot be loosened by hand, not as a reason to add extra installation force.
Does a different spin-on filter automatically take the same wrench?
No universal fit is established. Verify the replacement filter and its tool requirements separately; the wrench’s 3/8-inch drive specifies the connection to your wrench equipment, not the dimensions of every filter it can engage.
