2004 Honda CB900F 919 · Steering & Fork Service Buying guide

Separate top-bridge hardware from fork service tools

The 2004 US/Canada owner's manual specifies front spring-preload and rebound-damping adjustment. Record the settings before service and keep both fork legs at matching settings when reassembled. The chrome nut and washer are top-bridge hardware; they are not a steering-bearing adjustment kit.

Understand what the chrome pieces replace

The nut replaces 90304-415-000 and has a 30 mm wrench hex. The separate washer replaces 90503-283-000. These are distinct from the steering-bearing adjusting and locking parts; a new finish does not resolve bearing wear or incorrect adjustment.

Plan the fork repair around the actual assembly

The 2004 US/Canada owner's manual specifies front spring-preload and rebound-damping adjustment. Record the settings before service and keep both fork legs at matching settings when reassembled. The offered 43 mm driver helps seat a seal squarely, but it does not supply seals or establish the correct oil quantity. Use service information for the fitted fork and exact model year.

Practical questions

Can I cure steering play by tightening the new chrome nut?

Do not use the top nut as a substitute for the Honda bearing-inspection and adjustment procedure. Find the cause of play or binding first; worn bearings and the adjuster beneath the bridge need separate attention.

Does the fork-seal driver include the replacement seals?

No. It is the installation tool only. Order the correct oil seals, dust seals and any other service parts separately for the fork actually fitted.

What if a previous owner fitted a different front end?

Identify the donor fork and steering stem before ordering. The motorcycle's frame year does not establish the donor's seal dimensions, nut thread, washer arrangement or service settings.

Not sure which part you need?

Send your model and year, plus photos of your existing part and any changes to the original setup.
