1980 Honda CB900C Custom · Steering Bearings & Hardware Buying guide

Keep bearing races and stem fasteners organized

The listed tapered-bearing kit and separate stem hardware solve different problems. Keep upper and lower bearings and races identified, and inspect the stem threads before deciding whether the repair needs bearings, fasteners or both.

Plan the complete bearing service

The tapered steering-bearing kit lists upper and lower tapered bearing races. Inspect the existing assembly and use the service-manual method for installation and adjustment. Do not assume the kit renews damaged stem threads or includes every unrelated steering fastener.

Match hardware by reference and position

The top stem nut 90304-425-000 uses the separately listed washer 90503-425-000. Honda also shows a thread B nut, locking washer and bearing-adjustment nut below the top bridge. Match each position carefully; the listed top-nut washer should not be mistaken for the separate locking washer.

Buying questions

Will a new stem nut cure notchy steering?

A nut does not repair damaged bearing surfaces. Honda calls for bearing and race inspection and replacing the bearing with its matching races when needed. Diagnose the roughness before choosing hardware alone, and use the steering adjustment procedure after the repair.

Is the top-nut washer the locking washer below the bridge?

They occupy different positions. Honda shows a separate locking washer with the lower steering nuts. The listed 90503-425-000 washer belongs with the top stem nut; identify the removed part from the assembly diagram before ordering.

Are the two steering nuts interchangeable?

They are different listed components with different references and positions. Compare the service-manual assembly and removed hardware rather than selecting one from its general steering-nut description.
