1980 Honda CB900C Custom · Brake & Clutch Parts Buying guide
The 1980 Custom combines hydraulic disc brakes with a cable-operated wet clutch. A soft brake lever, dragging brake and slipping clutch call for different checks before parts are ordered.

The 1980 front piston is 38.12 × 35.15 mm; the rear is 42.8 × 41 mm. Choose separate front and rear repair parts. A reservoir kit, master-cylinder kit and caliper kit repair different assemblies. Check the leak or sticking component rather than ordering every hydraulic part together.
Start with the cable and release mechanism. If internal service is needed, keep the two friction-plate types, ordinary steel plates and riveted steel B plate in their specified positions. Clutch dampers are a separate repair.
Not by themselves. Air, low fluid or a hydraulic leak can cause a soft or spongy lever. Diagnose the hydraulic system and restore a firm, leak-free brake before riding.
Check cable adjustment first. Too much free play can prevent full release; warped plates can also cause drag. Inspect and measure the clutch if correct adjustment does not resolve it.
Use the year as the starting point, then identify the installed hardware. An aftermarket master cylinder, lever perch or changed caliper may require parts for that assembly rather than the original Honda unit.
