Ten years ago, I bought a bike sight unseen via an ad from a classic bike shop in Queensland, Australia. It was a USA model import and only had 8,760 miles on the clock. I'd been looking for a good CB550 for a year. I was really pleased when the bike turned up, it was in great condition. After a thorough once-over, I noticed the owners manual under the seat still had the early registration papers from Idaho, USA.
Fast forward 5 years and 15,000 miles, and I decided I might try contacting the original owner on Facebook (they had a fairly unique name). Low and behold, the previous owner replied and explained that the bike had sat in a barn for 30 years, he bought it from his friend's dad for $300 and sold it for $2500 after an oil change and good clean. He sent me a photo of the bike with a wild looking (massive) windshield and racks - fortunately no longer on the bike. :-) The bike now resides in Sydney, Australia where I ride it regularly with mates and enjoy looking after it. It's now done 28,600 miles and has plenty more in her.
